If you have a website, you need to learn about PageRank, what it is and how to structure your pages to your advantage. If this term is not so familiar to you or if you already understand what it is but still don't know how to create assertive strategies, check out our tips!

Pagerank: what is it and why use it?
PageRank is the name given to a structure off page seo service of an algorithm used by Google when it first started its work. In short, it is a metric used to calculate the relevance that websites have.

It was developed in 1995 by Larry Page at Stanford University, and the largest search engine today used it to study the authority of pages, scoring them on a scale of 0 to 10. Basically, this was Google's big differentiator at the beginning of its trajectory.

The algorithm checked the websites and understood whether they were building valuable content, making references to other pages and being referenced.

Until 2015, there was the Google Toolbar, or Google PageRank. It was used to check your ranking, showing the authority of a page in comparison to others, using a logarithmic system on a scale of 0 to 10.

In 2016, Google deactivated the tool, but today there are several others that can help you know your score. One example is Moz, one of the largest SEO tools that has its own metric to indicate the authority of your website.

This scale is called Page Authority and ranges from 0 to 100, considering not only the quality and quantity of the page's links, but also the relationship they have with the site's relevance.

Over time, Google has begun to study and value the context of links and the mentions made about them in content. Therefore, attention goes beyond choosing a good anchor text — selected words — to create your links, but also includes:

amount of text about what you are linking to;
quality of content about the reference link;
context needed for users to fully understand.
The best thing to do now is to think carefully about each page on your website and the articles on your blog and only make references to others if they add value to the reader. This is because exchanging links without any basis, context or need, but just to “cheat” the algorithm, is already recognized by search engines as bad practice.
